Kirk backs Cllr Keith Aspden's pedestrian refuge campaign1.00.00pm GMT Sat 11th Nov 2006
Cllr Madeleine Kirk joined Fulford councillor, Keith Aspden, and Baroness Scott (Lib Dem Spokesperson for Communities in the House of Lords) at a demonstration highlighting the need for a pedestrian refuge on Main Street, Fulford today. The refuge is needed to make it easier for residents to cross Fulford Main Street to catch buses to the city centre. Councillor Aspden has submitted a petition to full council calling for the pedestrian refuge. Recently Cllr Aspden surveyed over 300 residents in the Fordlands Road area of Fulford. 99% of respondents said they want the refuge to be installed. Councillor Keith Aspden said "I am pleased that a decision on the pedestrian refuge will be taken by the Council's City Strategy Executive Member Advisory Panel in December. Local residents are joining with me today to reinforce how much it is needed to enable them to cross in safety and to make use of all bus services. I am delighted that Madeleine Kirk Baroness Scott are here to support the campaign."
