Lib Dem Kirk Slams New Bid to Build on Huntington's Green Belt

11.00.00am GMT Fri 27th Feb 2009

Madeleine Kirk, Prospective Liberal Democrat MP for York Outer, has slammed fresh plans to build a mobile telephone mast on Green Belt land in Huntington.

Proposals for a mast over twenty metres tall at the same site, Hall Farm on Church Lane, were rejected by a council planning committee in December. Vodafone have now put in a fresh application for a slightly shorter mast.

"The new application is a major blow for those of us that campaigned against the original application," Madeleine said.

"The proposed site is completely unsuitable for such a development. It is on Green Belt land near the Huntington Conservation Area and the beautiful All Saints Church. Putting a mast here will ruin one of the most beautiful rural areas in York, and one of the most popular walking areas for local people.

"The Lib Dems are campaigning to see our Green Belt land protected against unsuitable development like this one. I hope this application goes the same way as the first, and Vodafone get the message that Huntington does not want this mast in their village."
