Madeleine Kirk Welcomes Rejection of Controversial Strensall Planning Application4.03.50pm GMT Thu 10th Dec 2009 Madeleine Kirk, Liberal Democrat councillor for Strensall ward, has welcomed the news that a controversial planning application in Strensall has been rejected. The plans proposed building a three storey nursing home on land on Princess Road where a single bungalow currently stands. They were rejected on the grounds that the building would have not been in keeping with the area because of its scale, mass and density. Madeleine Kirk had helped local residents collect signatures on a petition against the development. The petition attracted over 500 signatures from concerned residents. Commenting, Madeleine, who spoke against the development at today's planning meeting, said: "It's great to hear that local concerns were listened to and this development rejected. The proposed building would have been far too big for a small plot in a residential area and it would certainly have caused serious traffic problems. "I want to thank all the local people who collected signatures on the petition against this development and the hundreds who signed it."
