About Madeleine Kirk
Madeleine Kirk has lived and worked in York for almost 30 years. A councillor in the York area since 1991, Madeleine has led a number of campaigns including fighting against NHS cuts, Post Office closures and supporting the re-opening of rural railway stations. Madeleine is a Director of the York Theatre Royal Board and was Vice Chair of Connexions York & North Yorkshire before its recent dissolution as well a governor of York Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She believes strongly in quality social housing and affordable homes schemes and is a shareholder of the Ryedale Housing Association. Before being selected as the Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for York Outer, Madeleine was the candidate for Elmet in the 2005 and 2001 General Elections and for Leeds East in the 1997 election. She also stood in Yorkshire & the Humber for the 1999 European Elections. Married to David since 1975, they have lived in York since 1980 and have two children. Educated at Loreto College, Madeleine went on to further her education at St John's College of FE and Leeds Metropolitan University. Madeleine has always worked in banking and finance, including working for the Standard Chartered Bank and the Amateur Swimming Association and presently works for a large social research charity.
